What does a Transportation Specialist do?

Computer support specialists analyze, troubleshoot, and evaluate network programs on computers. They are vital to the routine maintenance of an organization's networks and perform tasks including file backups on a network.

Computer support specialists perform program maintenance daily, weekly, or monthly, and they are important members of the organization's disaster recovery efforts. They are responsible for solving information technology-related problems and issues quickly and efficiently. A computer support specialist may assist a user over the phone, using email, or during an in-person visit, and they can often assist with problems remotely. They test and evaluate an existing network system and perform regular maintenance to ensure a network operates correctly. They are sometimes responsible for conducting training sessions, for updating records and documentation libraries and testing software. They also solve hardware and technical issues and stay up-to-date on the latest technologies. Depending upon the employer, a bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree is typically required.

What responsibilities are common for Transportation Specialist jobs?
  • Assist with the organization of the leadership's time and maintain accurate schedules.
  • Organize work activities to ensure completion on time.
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail, records, and other materials.
  • Complete training as assigned by the company.
  • May diagnose equipment failures under the guidance of senior personnel and ensure equipment is running safely.
  • Support personnel using the network by answering questions and solving problems.
  • Provide administrative assistance/support to the department chairperson and departmental faculty, students and university clientele.
  • Follow and comply with all company and federally established policies and procedures. complete all applicable training courses assigned by the company.
  • Complete forms connected with work assignments according to established procedures.
  • Virtualization, Network routing, VLANs, VPNs, and network security duties.
  • Make arrangements for facilities and audiovisual equipment as needed.
  • Prepare routine to moderately complex correspondence, agendas, proposals, course materials, schedules, articles, meeting minutes, reports and other materials.
  • Ensure the quality of work, products and services as a first priority and comply or exceed all regulatory, safety, and GMP compliance standards.
  • Ensure files and records remain updated and are easily accessible.
  • Coordinate repairs/installations with facilities staff, contractors and users to minimize interruptions.
  • Verify all documents are signed and completed properly.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships and an open line of communication with other departments.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Provide reception duties to clients and visitors of the agency.
  • Ensure manufacturing equipment is maintained and operating efficiently at all times and that the production schedule is maintained to meet site and business goals.
  • Develop cooperation and teamwork while participating in a group, working toward solutions which generally benefit all involved parties.
What are the typical qualifications for Transportation Specialist jobs?
  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in business, computer science, engineering or information technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with cloud and Linux software and systems.
  • Prior experience working in a consulting position.
