How are senior leaders perceived at Care New England?
Pros
Many of the doctors, nurses, and staff remain dedicated to their calling
Cons
Hospital is in terrible financial shape ($34 million loss in 2022). But previous CEO (Fanale) took home $1.8 million in 2020 (16% raise - most recent available information). Hospital has less than 45 days cash in hand, and steadily declining! That is less than many startups. There have been a string of changes in CEO and upper management, who leave after 3-4 years. Management's primary interest appears to be to maximize their own salary and bonus, and they are not really concerned about the Hospital's mission. Priorities keep changing, and each new CEOs job is to try and correct for the last one's mistakes. CNE is currently undertaking desperate cost cutting measures (layoffs of key personnel, abandoning parts of the mission), but upper management is not stepping back on their agressive pay hikes and bonuses. This is a classic example of a non-profit being run for the benefit of senior leadership and the board of directors.
Advice to Management
Step back from the feeding trough. Remember the Hospital's mission.
