Capitalism has no business in mental health. They decided to lower every therapist's pay with tiered pay. To get paid what we all were getting paid, we have to work 40-plus hours a week. They are trying to motivate us to work harder. Why am I going to overwork myself for someone else to be paid essentially nothing? Good luck getting clients to make the higher pay scale. I had my book open for a year and got two new clients in that time. They stopped advertising for months and taking insurance. They swear they are advertising again, but I’m already preparing my leave. They do not pay for notes, phone calls, or anything outside of in-session and meetings. No-shows and rescheduled appointments are little pay. They are constantly changing things and expecting everyone to be on board instantly. Questions go unanswered by management or are passed on to a ticket system. Or they say to look it up—zero support. So, with unsurvivable pay, zero support, and no consistency, I do not recommend Cerebral.

Pay for independent therapists is laughable and insulting. They do a tier pay structure for 1099s (like better help) it will only contribute to burn out. The company has been through so many layoffs that it’s terrifying. My managers got laid off recently and they got rid of an in-person auditor for charts. They also don’t take insurance anymore. They will do super bills but that puts even more responsibility on the clients. They are rolling out couples therapy way too fast. There is hardly any good guidance anymore. For a company with this many associate level therapists, that’s not good. Communication between upper management and workers is minimal. Also, advertisement has been cut for a while now, leading to smaller caseloads. The company has put a lot of the advertisement responsibility on the therapists. Essentially the message we get is “Oh you want more people? Well, here is a link to your profession. Share it around.” And do we get paid for this advertisement? No. There used to be a wonderful community of therapists here and now moral is at an all time low. So many people have left. Clients don’t want to stay due to the turn over. We all feel betrayed and clients are suffering, too.

Unexpected Layoffs Change in management Frequent changes

When I say its been a wild ride I mean that in both a positive and negative way. We have had some layoffs in the last three years that I have been here in an effort to make the company more sustainable. I do like the flexibility, I feel I am fairly compensated and I have a good clinical manager and ops manager. I also feel like management will listen to suggestions from therapists and have which resulted in changes in our EMR that made life much easier.

Cerebral stopped taking insurance and I'd like to see that return. We also do not have a match on our 401K. I am hoping that comes back soon.
