How is race or ethnicity talked about at Ministry of Education Singapore?

Pros

Iron rice bowl. Culture and practices vary from school to school. The longer a teacher is in service, they are more known to be gutsy to decline extra unnecessary work, just have to face being called ‘a difficult person to work with’.

Cons

Unethical practices often go unreported as everyone wants to protect their rice bowl and don’t wanna risk being marked. Racial harmony is a farce, higher management and teachers casually pass racist remarks from time to time. A lot of competitions that kids join, teachers’ involvement is sky high. Moral values and mental health taught to students are not practiced in the staff room. Bullying happens in the staff room too. Alot of HODs tend to be a ‘yes’ men to the principal cause of their PB, hence extra work gets trickled down to their team.

Advice to Management

Stop so many vanity projects, give teachers back their 90% of their time to focus on actually preparing quality resources for students. Practice work-life balance for real. If need to add new events or initiatives, some old ones will HAVE TO GO, stop holding on to every single initiative/event/workshop/collaboration just because.
