How are the career development opportunities at Singapore American School?

Pros

Teachers are payed well and have lots of opportunities for personal and professional development such as access to financial advisors, endless opportunities to take on additional paid gigs such as summer camps and the option to get advanced degrees through university partnerships. Efforts are being made to offer professional development to local staff.

Cons

The divisions operate in silo so your experience can vary a lot depending on which part of the school you work in. Many leaders have been in their roles for years and are attached to old ways of doing things, sometimes with seemingly little regard for best practice. Getting things done can be a matter of who you know, rather than what’s aligned with the mission. Also, there’s a clear class dividing line between foreign and local staff.
