      Average interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Atlassian

      Interview

Completed a video interview with the recruiting team. They asked me to complete a design challenge, and then seemingly implemented some of my suggestions later, but was not offered the job

      Question 1

      What is your design approach?

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Atlassian (Sydney) in Jun 2015

      Interview

Steps: 1. Applied online. 2. A few days later I received an email asking to schedule an interview with a "first layer HR manager". 3. It was a Skype interview. I'd say it's been 30min friendly background check. 4. I received a new email to schedule the second interview with a "Design Manager". 5. Again, a Skype interview. Deeper but also friendly. We talked about design process, Atlassian culture, my experience, plans... truly enjoyable. 6. I received a new email to schedule the third interview with the Atlassian team. 7. At this time, a Google Hangout interview (they asked me to choose the tool). Now, a test. Actually, two tests: 7.1 Test as a teal leader (me and two interviewers – remember, using Hangout): they sent me a briefing with a real issue and asked to pick up two members of the Atlassian team do work with me as a team (please note: I was not able to choose different individuals, but to select the role each interviewer should act like – to better fit "my team" to solve the problem). As far I can remember, it was a half a hour work process and it was fun. Enjoyable. 7.2 Test as a problem solver and presentation skills check: for the second step, they sent me a new briefing, now I should work by myself (20 minutes) and then present the solution (10 minutes). A tough mission due to excess of time pressure. But, I understand what they were trying to get from me. It was a valid process.

      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Atlassian (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2019

      Interview

Interview process started out with a phone interview with the recruiter and then a design lead. Interview with the the recruiter was lovely and I felt like I was a great fit. Following that I had an interview with the design lead. It did not go well. They were 10 minutes late, grilled me on questions without much clarification, misdirected me to answer some questions incorrectly, and on top of all that they talked a lot about their personal life. Later on I found out the lead designer had an old coworker that he had in mind and he ended up hiring.

      Senior Designer Interview

      21 Dec 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Mountain View, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian (Mountain View, CA)

      Interview

By great leaps the best interview experience, I've had. At every step of the way, the Atlassian team was respectful, courteous, and professional. The process resembles many with the recruiter screening, director phone interview ( a portfolio review), an on-site (values interview, design challenge, and other meetings), and a follow up interview on behavior questions around work process. I feel that the Atlassian version of these was more thoughtful and process driven. It wasn't just a bunch of steps the team had to do. I was given feedback after the onsite which other big companies refuse to do.

      Question 1

Lots of behavior, "give me an example of" type questions. It's worth it to do a ton of prep.
