I applied online. I interviewed at Block
Deceptive interview practice for a 60m tech screen. Here's how it went: Introduction: 5-10m Them: So, we are going to present some questions to you that we want you to solve through CoderPad. Them: Act like this is a pair programming session (but no further explanation of what that actually means to them). 🔻 Them: Make sure you are talking through what you are doing, and how you are thinking, as we want to know how you solve problems. 👍 Question 1: a simple problem, finished in ~10 minutes Question 2: as I was solving this, I ran into a couple of things, one of which was a bug in the Golang Docs page for the standard library. Then I ran into another problem, regarding CoderPad won't let you import non-standard library packages. Then I ran into another problem in my implementation, that I didn't account for, that had to do with duplicates. Then I ran into another problem in my implementation, that I didn't account for, in regarding a non-nominal initial implementation that would result in non-deterministic behavior. I was verbose through all of this. Every "shortcut" I took, I was upfront about, and explained why I wasn't doing something in a particular way, and to just let me know if that's a "requirement". Dropped some statements about Big(0) performance characteristics of this and that, etc... And we reached the 50m mark... Questions: 5-10m --- Seems all well and good. Get a response < 24hrs later that they "decided to go with another candidate". Called the recruiter to get more information. He didn't complete all the questions in time. Oh 🤔 that must have been a 3-part question... well, they didn't set any expectations for what "success" meant for this interview. 🔻 Recruiter: Actually, it was a 4-part question. 🔻 Ok, so what they actually wanted, was for me to complete a 4-part question in 40minutes... 🔻 I wasn't told how many parts there were going to be, so I wasn't thinking about pacing or anything like that. I'm imagining also that each part of the question gets harder than the last, so it seemed I was setup for failure.
- Given X input, write a function that produces an output like Y (format does not need to be exact). (specifics redacted for fairness)

3 interviews, similar difficulty level, interviewers were very friendly and helpful, basic software system design questions, leetcode easy, cares a lot about team and cultural fit, interviewers not necessarily from your team, team matching occurs after
- why are you interested in working at square?

OA on codesignal then recruiter reached out then phone screen but didn’t make it past phone screen. Recruiter only talked to me after OA and found a time to schedule phone call.

Interview process was well conducted but lacked sufficient communication on the side of the interviewee. Generally speaking the energy was postivie and upbeat but I felt it was missing authenticity.
- Explain a situation where you encountered a problem and how you overcame it.

Interview was two hours and asked questions that wasn’t with the job description. They asked questions as if I was applying for a manager position. The recruiter was no help at all and barely responded
- What executive change did you make for the company and how was the outcome?

First round interview. Brief call with a recruiter that lasted about 20 minutes. Mostly just to gauge my previous experience and to better understand my interest in the company and why this opportunity was the right move for me.
- Why I wanted to join the company.

Most of the interview was pretty standard, coding screen and then onsite with coding, systems design, and behavioral interviews. Since I interviewed for a security software position, they asked after the onsite for an additional security systems interview, which was a bit unprofessional to tack on at the end after the onsite. Overall, I think the process was fair, though communication could have been better.
- Typical systems interview question, asked to design a secure system for signing in employees

For mobile engineers, you have a take home project option or the leetcode route. Your final interview technical questions will be based on what approach you chose. I'd recommend not spending more than the allotted time for the take home.
- Take home project for android/iOS

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Block in Feb 2023
Applied to the position which already had 200+ applicants. And no surprise that wasn’t selected for interviews. The good news was they sent out an email letting you know that
- Basic screening questions such as why you interested in working there

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Block (Rehoboth Beach, DE) in Feb 2023
Applied on line in early Nov. First interview in Nov, second second week of Dec. Despite several requests for a status check - radio silence until Feb. Informed that the first choice candidate somehow fell through and can we continue. A third interview is schedule and completed. No feedback until a request for 3 more interviews back to back. All interviews were 30 minutes. After a week I received a form email saying "the team reviewed my application and decided to proceed....". Nov. 15 - Feb 16, Six interviews. Not cool.
- What project management tools have you used.
