I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in Jan 2022
Interview
Applied directly on CZI career website. Recruiter reached out few days after. First round was a phone call with the recruiter, recruiter was nice and straight forward. Because of the holiday season, the second phone call with hiring manager was scheduled almost a month later.
During pandemic, the interviews are mostly done through video calls, however, this one was a phone call. Hiring manager called while driving and asked me to do a self intro first. Almost 10 mins into the interview, HM got home then told me to wait for a minute. There were total of 2-3 genearal data science related questions were asked then HM asked me if I have any questions to ask. I asked 4-5 questions about the team and the position, and HM only briefly answered them within few sentences. So I asked HM if there's any questions for me. HM asked why I decided to move on? And that was it.
HM wasn't interested in my experience at all and I didn't feel the HM was professional about the interview. The interview was set to 45 mins and completed in 30 mins.
I had respect about CZI because what they do as a philanthropy, but this interview has changed my mind.
We sincerely apologize for your interview experience and have followed up with the team to share the points you’ve surfaced. Your feedback provides us with an opportunity to improve how our interviews are conducted. Thank you for taking the time. We hope you reconsider CZI in the future.
