Application
I applied online. I interviewed at Dehns in Oct 2020
Interview
The interview took place over Zoom, and lasted approx 4 hours. I was asked technical questions in the first hour, then given an hour to prepare a discussion of two given patent applications, and then an informal chat with two current trainees.

How does a refrigerator work?
How does a record player work?
The interview process consisted of four stages. I submitted a CV and covering letter and was invited to complete a set of psychometric tests and to complete a written, time-limited technical exercise. Following this I was invited to interview with them. The first was a remote interview with a senior associate; this was described as a conversational interview to establish my interest in the role and the firm, and my suitability for the role. The second stage was an in-person interview with two senior partners. This consisted primarily of technical questions, however it felt quite conversational and nothing about it seemed terribly difficult or unreasonable. The third stage was an in-person interview with the team I'd be integrated into, and following this I received a phone call offering me the role. My overall experience is clearly positive, having been offered the job. But, I'd like to make clear that the multi-stage qualfying process they have seems specifically designed to give the candidate the best chance of success, not least by including several aspects of examination. I interviewed with some other firms around this time and my experience here was overwhelmingly more positive than at any other.
