      Software Development Engineer Interview

      11 Jul 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at EDF in Jun 2025

      Interview

I genuinely wanted to rate this experience positively, as both the first stage (phone screen) and the second stage (which I was told would be a behavioural but was largely technical) were well-run and engaging. However, the feedback I received after the second interview was extremely disappointing and incredibly inaccurate. The lead engineer based their entire assessment on a single project I mentioned, one that, whilst full stack in nature, did not involve CI/CD. As a result, the feedback claimed I had no CI/CD experience, which is simply not true. This misrepresentation extended to several other areas as well. It felt as though no effort was made to explore the full scope of my background or to ask clarifying questions. If the interview structure doesn't allow for deeper probing beyond one project example, it's unlikely to give an accurate picture of the candidate's capabilities. Overall, I felt this was a poor use of time. My suggestion is to review how your interviews are conducted, especially how technical depth is evaluated, and ensure interviewers take a more holistic approach to candidate assessment.
