*This is an overview of FOREO's interview process and a review of its job offer process.
Job Opening: Product Development - Creative Content Specialist
Location: Shanghai
I applied through LinkedIn and after about a month, HR got in touch with me to schedule an interview with potential direct manager. Covid-19 situation was happening, so the interview was done on Skype.
After the interview, they asked for my expected salary and sent a copy test for me to accomplish (job was for a copy-based PD creative specialist). I submitted my accomplished copy test and they were pleased with the ideas, materials, and proposals I provided. In the end, they "gave me an offer"/I "got the job".
HR then asked me to visit their office so they could tour me around, let me see what it's like, etc. I went there and had a quick chat with HR, she had me sign a job application form, but there was no offer sheet.
I basically got the job, but they never gave me a figure. No specific benefits and package because they said they would base them on my previous payslips. They were asking for six months worth of payslips from my previous company, which was based in Southeast Asia. I can't help but get the impression that they were trying to lowball me because I'm Southeast Asian.
HR also told me that in China, they need payslips for work permit application purposes, but I know that this is not true. My husband (who is also a foreigner) and a lot of my expat friends of other nationalities who are working in Shanghai did not need to provide previous payslips for their jobs.
We never talked figures because they did not want to base the offer on:
(1) The role I was being considered for
(2) My performance at the copy test
(3) My fit in the company culture based on interviews
It was the most time-consuming, unprofessional job offer process I've ever experienced.
Mega thumbs down.
I eventually withdrew my job application because if this experience represents what it's like to work with FOREO, I do NOT want to be a part of it.
