Electrical Engineer - New Grad Interview

      18 Feb 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Edmonton, AB
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Fluor (Edmonton, AB) in Feb 2015

      Interview

Interview started with couple basic questions such as: tell us about yourself, why engineering etc. Then it moved to more behavioural type questions. There were questions on several scenarios - communication, leadership, teamwork etc. There was one HR representative and one Engineering Manager. Both of them alternated in asking questions. There weren't any traditional technical question. Interview was fairly long - 75 minutes. Normally expect it to be 60 minutes. They started the interview about 10 minutes late (the interview location opened late), and then it went over time while talking to me. Towards the end they were rushing a lot, and I only got to ask one question. At that point, I was told to email my other questions, and also add the HR representative on LinkedIn. Both of which I have done, except I haven't received any response so far - not on LinkedIn, not via email. I am still waiting for an outcome. The interview experience has been neutral to be honest. The rushing towards the end, and a lack of response on both LinkedIn and email have left a sour taste. Also, due to the rush, they didn't tell me anything about the next steps of the interview. So, I am pretty much in the dark right now.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell us about yourself. Why engineering. Interests outside of school. Describe a time when you had to do a presentation and how you put your point across. Describe a time when you took on leadership role Describe a time when you had problem with a teammate and how did you solve it Describe your biggest struggle in your academic life What are your favourite courses? Why do you want to work at Fluor? Have you ever taken any courses and/or have any experience with Control Systems or Electrical Supply line?
