I recently went through a six-week process to interview for the Manager of Corporate Affairs position with Henry Schein. Initially following the application there was a phone screen with HR. After passing it with flying colors, they asked for writing samples and a narrative description about my job's day-to-day activities. This is where things began to unravel a bit, I had FOUR more interviews with a Director, two VP's and finally an SVP. I also had to take a personality test. During this process, I had multiple calls from their HR people to coordinate these meetings. All of the conversations I had were great and that was mentioned on several occasions. I even got a job offer during the process that didn't seem to be as good a fit which I declined because this had taken so long. In the end, after hours of interviews and preparation, I got a two sentence rejection via email 10 days following my last interview. One would expect such treatment after a phone screen, or perhaps one interview, but a generic rejection following five total interviews including one with the Chief of Staff to the CEO? Truly disappointing, one would expect a simple phone call explaining the situation. However, it seems in the end I was not even worth that.
