I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Macy's (Atlanta, GA) in Sept 2010
Interview
Filled out an application in the store after walking in, telling the first HR person I met that I wanted to work there, and being told that I need to fill out their application. Did it on the spot, didn't mention desired pay as asked because wasn't sure what was standard. Got an interview in a couple of days, with the same person I met on my walk-in. Got the job offer right away. The extensive background check was done after a couple months of working in the store (my hiring manager already liked me by then).

Question 1
Was asked to explain why I wanted to work at Macy's.
Very quick and easy. Sent an application received and email, and scheduled a phone interview. Manager seemed very chill, just told you what was expected of the job asked if you were okay with completing tasks etc. A very breezy process was able to secure an offer.
Friendly interview with relevant queries and questions. Happy to answer my own questions. Expect to spend at least half hour there but they are accommodating for extra needs and access.

Interview
The interview went well. I went into a room with cash registers. I was escorted to a room with a lot of cash registers. We were shown how to use the register. We were also asked to take a written test on problem solving
