      Data Scientist Interview

      11 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Neiman Marcus in Sept 2021

      Interview

Applied on LinkedIn, a recruiter then called my cell a couple of days later. Once I called back we had a ~10 mins quick HR screening, she then asked me to text her back my availability for next week to schedule interviews. I did and the following communications all happened via email. No one told me how many rounds I would need to hop through, when I asked the team they had no idea either. First screening was with 5 DS, it was a live coding session in Jupyter notebook (30 mins ML + 30 mins SQL). Second screening was with another 5 DS on the team (1 hr), this time it was a mix of technical questions (ML, stats etc) + behavioral questions. The last and final round was a 30-min chat with the senior director. If passed, you'll receive an offer. I had to withdraw myself from the process due to pending offers. HR never ghosted me in the process, I'd appreciate if they shared the hiring timeline though.

      Question 1

Explain Naive Bayes. How much do you know about NN? Why is activation used? Python - given a small data set (sent 5 mins prior to the interview), build a model to predict the outcome (you can Google but need to be in the same screen sharing session).

      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Neiman Marcus (Dallas, TX) in Feb 2013

      Interview

The interview process was pretty good. Once the recruiter passed me onto the internal people, I think I had to wait 48 hours before I did a phone screen with HR, followed up with a phone screen with the hiring manager and a follow up with the department head. The 2 phone calls with manager and department head were technical and thought provoking to see how i thought and figured out problems; I'd call it standard as far as the questions asked nothing too hard or difficult to answer or work thru.
