The process is usually a two step process. First step is the typical basic interview questions. Next step requires you to pull outfits based off given trend - usually times

I interviewed at Nordstrom (Saint Louis, MO)
Relatively easy. They ask about past experience and situational type questions. At the end you are expected to pull merchandise off of the floor for a visual display according to a specific trend.
- How would you define visual merchandising?

I interviewed at Nordstrom
Had a q&a portion of the interview and a styling portion where you created outfits using pieces in the store. They gave you a style board to base the outfits around.
- “who is your favorite contemporary designer?”
Anonymous Interview Candidate in Scottsdale, AZ
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Scottsdale, AZ) in Jun 2022
It was very easy going and they asked some specific questions related to merchandising. They described what I would be doing as a visual merchandiser for Nordstrom. They shared their expectations for the role and asked if I had any questions.
- Describe what a visual merchandiser is in your own words.

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Portland, OR) in May 2022
A very straightforward and typical process. First, a bit of small talk and then a set of standardized questions. The end involved coordinating a few outfits based on the company's photo directive.
- Example: which retailers do you consider 1. Classic? 2. Modern? 3. Fast fashion?

I interviewed at Nordstrom
An easy, and enjoyable process. Initial interview was over the phone, where about 10-15 questions were asked. They followed up quickly for a second interview, which was in person. A straightforward process all around.
- What is the importance of visual merchandising?
Anonymous Interview Candidate in Austin, TX
I applied online. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Austin, TX) in Jan 2022
I applied for the job and immediately received an automated response for more information. Once I filled that out, I received a link to schedule an interview but every time I selected "choose a time" it would show "no time slots are currently available". I emailed the HR person associated with the email I received and she never responded. Pretty disappointing.
- None. Couldn't actually schedule the interview.

I interviewed at Nordstrom
interviewing manager was over 10 minutes late. Needed another copy of my resume as she didn't bring her original copy to the interview. She asked superficial questions ie...what fashion designers I like. Looked confused and bored when I actually talked about work experience.
- What designers do you like?

I received a call from a hiring manager during the day The hiring manager explained the position to me. She asked me about five questions regarding my experience and gave me customer scenarios. She also asked for my availability.
