I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Northrop Grumman (San Diego, CA) in Jan 2011
Interview
I was interviewed by 3 different teams for the potential project I would work on. The panel consisted of 3 people, usually the project manager, technical lead, and another engineer. They talked gave background on their projects and the role I would be taking on. They talked about the work environment and what to expect. I was then asked questions by all three members of the panel for around 1-2 hours each. The questions were both technical and to assess personality/working style.

Interview
Technical questions and behavioral questions (STAR formatting) with the normal what draws you to work for us. Microsoft Teams meeting with a panel to review answers. Took roughly 1 hour and it was a very straightforward and easily made process.
Formal, not too stressful. Ensures you understand the basics and thay you know what you're talking about as you may be getting interviewed by somebody that's technical at some point.
