I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Safeway Canada (Vancouver, BC) in Jan 2013
Interview
Interviewed in the office at the store, standard questions about previous employment etc. Got a phone call for interview. Did interview and testing together. Testing consisted of some bagging scenarios, a few math scenarios involving cash. Interview asked about previous customer service experiences, scenarios involving moral dilemmas such as employee theft.
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Safeway Canada (Vancouver, BC) in Jun 2013
Interview
Applied online, received a call later that day to schedule an interview for later that week.
Interview process was relatively generic... questions were just read off of a pre-scripted sheet of paper.
Interviewer was clearly not prepared. Had not read my online application, did not read my resume, etc. Aside from that, the interview was a relatively positive encounter.
Some questions included:
1) Name one time you've handled a difficult situation
2) Why do you want to work at Safeway?
3) How would you rate your customer service skills?
4) Are you able to multi-task?
I thought I knocked the interview out of the park, as Interview lasted 45 minutes (was only scheduled for 15 mins). Was also taken for a tour of the store, and introduced to the management staff. Was told there were further interviews early in the next week, and I would hear back (but never did). The job has since been filled, as per the online job listings.
