Interview

Terrible experience. The interview seemed fine initially. However, the experience took a turn for the worse when I asked the HR about whether SAS is an inclusive employer. HR seems to be on the lookout only for "degree of positivity" in a referee's reviews., and does not care to understand deeper -the more gloating, the better! [[[Keeping the above in mind, we would need your full agreement to carry out our standard reference check process, in the knowledge that we need this step to be completed before an offer can be made, but also that the offer depends on the feedback from the reference check being positive.]]] ==> prioritise feedback from the reference check of being contrived or even gloating ones, so long as it is positive , over one that is neutral (neither positive nor negative) I have been asked questions even by some referees on how distrusting their HR sounded. Rigid adherence in "following an SOP", ( one-size-fit-all ). 1-way, top-down questioning by their HR (instead of seeking to facilitate a 2-way ,mutual understanding between the candidate and them) Shortly after the interview, I asked their HR some questions, which was met with silence: My questions to them: 1.) Is SAS an inclusive employer, accepting and embracing the diversity of employees with diverse perspectives? 2.) By stating that you expect “ feedback from the reference check being positive.” , do you mean that you prioritise feedback from the reference check of being contrived or even gloating ones, so long as it is positive , over one that is neutral (neither positive nor negative)? 3.) Does your HR take feedback from candidates or junior employees/ current employees into consideration -on feedback that’s regarding the SAS talent acquisition strategy ? I saw that you have written that you “understand my views and concerns on the process”. Apparently, some people here think that all candidates must fit in a certain mould in order to perform at their best; rather than their organization seeking to understand the candidates better via initiating a 2-way communication

Interview

I interviewed with SAS on a couple different occasions, and after each interview felt as if I had been violated or abused in some way. I’ve interviewed and hired employees and have been on several interviews - I would never treat candidates the way I was treated in SAS’s interviews. At least one of the staff members in the interviews was rude and demeaning, while none of the interviewers had a good understanding of the position I was applying for (it would’ve been appreciated if someone from my field was at the interview). I completely understand reviews of the school from current or former staff members which mention low staff morale. There seems to be high staff turnover since the position I applied for seems to be open at least every other year. Above all, I get the feeling that SAS hires through nepotism/cronyism (or some type of “ism”) rather than the qualities and strengths of the candidate. Their website promotes DEI, however, looking at the make-up of SAS’s staff members (race, gender, etc), DEI seems to be given lip service and without much clout. SAS is a corporation and candidates should remember that.

Interview Questions
  • Something along the lines of, “Can you tell us how you help students?” followed by browbeating by one or more interviewers. The few specific scenario-type questions that were asked, were generic and not relevant to the day-to-day duties of the position.

Difficult Interview

I applied online. I interviewed at Singapore American School in Dec 2019

Interview

Not even an interview, just a virtual interview talking to yourself and it is recorded. It was a difficult interview without interacting with a human. It felt cold and indifferent.

Interview

Applied for the position in June 2019, was called up for an interview only in Aug 2019. Attended 2 rounds of interviews in Aug. I initially had a good impression of the school as the environment seems like a good place to work in. Also, the team that I met were nice people. However, what changed my impression of the organization was how things were handled after the interview. I did not hear from them after my final interview despite me emailing the hiring manager to follow-up on the outcome. Think it’s basic courtesy to at least reply someone who was sincere about the role and invested time and effort to attend the interviews. Ratings would have been a positive one, if not for the ghosting after attending the final interview.
