      Product Manager Interview

      22 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Stack Overflow (New York, NY) in Oct 2021

      Interview

I was scheduled a video call with the hiring manager. On the morning of, the recruiter emailed me that they had moved on with other candidates. When I sent an email to the recruiter asking if there was any specific reason, she had just copy and pasted the rejection email. Received a separate email the day after saying the role had been filled. I was very disappointed by this interview process. There was no respect for the candidates here.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Stack Overflow in Oct 2022

      Interview

Recruiter and hiring manager were very very nice. For the virtual onsite, there was only a product sense interview (prompt shared beforehand) and one other panel interview. There should have been at least 2 other behavioral panel interviews to be honest, as it seemed to rely too heavily on just 1 person’s opinion. Product sense interview was very unfriendly. Tried to engage with them and have an open, balanced conversation. But they were very tight-lipped, despite the prompt explicitly saying “be open and have a conversation.” So it felt awkward. Other panel interview asked me very basic product management questions in a very roundabout way. It was quite strange and it didn't seem like they knew product management either. Then they asked me the same prompt as the product sense interview, but in a much condensed time frame. Seems like the interviewers don't coordinate the questions together. Both sessions were not very friendly. They didn’t seem to want to hire anyone. There was no urgency on their part.

      Product Manager Interview

      11 Jun 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Stack Overflow in Apr 2019

      Interview

The interview process was great. They have this down to a science. You basically start by doing video interviews with a developer, then a PM, then a director. If you pass those three you are presented with a paid project. After you submit your project if they like what you wrote you do a final interview with either the Director or VP of Product. In this final interview they dig much deeper into the project you submitted and see how you came up with the solution, how you would roll it out, etc.
