I interviewed twice for the same role at The Weather Company, several months apart, and unfortunately, both experiences left much to be desired.
The process involved multiple rounds of interviews, which I took seriously—coming prepared to speak to strategy, execution, and leadership. However, both final conversations felt more like a casual chat than a structured evaluation. It lacked direction and didn’t give me a real opportunity to showcase my skills or value.
The feedback I received was nearly identical to the previous round months earlier, which centered around needing more hands-on technical and leadership experience. Since the expectations clearly hadn't changed, it was disappointing to be re-engaged for a role that still wasn’t aligned. It felt like the process lacked internal clarity on what kind of candidate they were actually seeking.
Additionally, the scope of the role felt mismatched with the title. The responsibilities discussed—including building global infrastructure, full ESP implementation, and leading strategy from the ground up—were much more aligned with a Director-level position. It’s important that job titles match the level of expectation to ensure fair compensation and attract the right candidates.
Another concern was the noticeable lack of diversity throughout the interview process. For a company of this size and visibility, I expected to see more representation in the team, especially for a customer-facing role in marketing.
