The first stage of the interview was a telephone one where we had a chat. She then emailed me a script to read and I had to pretend I was calling her to tell her about the touring theatre show we were promoting.
The next stage was the interview. I was very excited until I got there. The building was run down and even the people nearby did not know where it was. There was a large letterbox and as I stood in front of the door, I saw her coming down with a massive dog that was virtually pulling her. She explained later that she always takes the dog with her to the door so that the mastiff knows the new person is a friend. Judging by the emptiness of the building, I think she kept the dog as a guard dog at work.
Somehow, the whole building felt unsafe.
We had a chat upstairs and the dog started to bark at me. Another man watching told me to lower my bag etc. He gave me more directions as to what to do and he was just another freelancer.
The owner asked me to fill in some forms and I told her I could not work there. She said "You are not an animal lover then and she led me out of the building, which has a padlocked door.
It has to be one of the strangest places I have ever been for an interview.
