      English Teacher Interview

      16 Feb 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VIPKid in Jan 2017

      Interview

For the first interview, the individual was in China. I was asked if I had a degree, if I had a teaching certification, did a demo lesson, and then was asked how much I wanted to make an hour. I was offered to go on to the next step. I only made it to practicum one. The individual was in Canada. I know I was not perfect. At all. But she did not stick to the student profile that was provided and kept staring at me without reacting when I was only using the simple commands, phrases, and vocab the "student" was already supposed to know and she did not respond to my TPR as it wasn't the TPR she was "looking for." I did correct all of the flaws that she pointed out during the first half of my lesson for the second part and she responded a lot better, but I still did not get the position. It took nearly a week for me to get the rejection email then another week for them to reply back with "feedback" around my practicum, very little of which even remotely applied to my interaction with the teacher from Canada. Their email said I can reapply in three months. I may, or may not.

      Interview

Simple and straightforward. They give you all the demo material, which ends up being your PowerPoint slide. They look for a few simple markers to evaluate the teaching style, and the rest is pretty straightforward.

      Interview

I interviewed with VIPKid back in the golden days, of showing an initial mock interview, followed by an offer, and then doing a lesson with the mock teacher/ Mentor. It was pass or fail. Today, it's a bit different. You apply, give your mock interview to the company and your pay rate is based on a tier system of total classes taught.
