I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VIPKid (New York, NY) in Jan 2017
Interview
First, I had to go through an initial demo lesson and interview. This was 10minutes long. It's important to use props and be "overly" excited. Have a strong internet connection and have great lighting. Watch YouTube videos to get a great idea on what to do. Afterwards, they make you watch training videos and take a quiz and then complete 1 or 2 more mock lessons with a real VIPKid teacher. I only had to do one.
The first demo lesson the recruiter acts like a 5 year old. The first mock lesson the teacher also acts like a 5 year old. The second mock lesson, the teacher is supposed to act like an 8 year old with some English experience for the second half and a 5 year old for the first half. Be careful on timing. Practice makes perfect. Speak slow and clear! All of this had to be done within a 2 weeks time span.
Got hired as a British speaking then cancelled as not from America which I disclosed at the first interview which I think was silly and unprofessional at the time it was during covid when this happpened.
Very lenghthy interview process, but the interviewers were nice and helpful. There were several steps to the process and it was pretty involved. I had to prepare a lesson beforehand
It was easy an straightforward. 1 interview and 2 mock classes to pass. They offer a contract for a year with option to renew after 1st contract is over. Overall the process last for about 2 weeks from the time you apply unless you are waitlisted.
