      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Xantrion (Oakland, CA) in Aug 2012

      Interview

I found a job posting on Craigslist and sent in my application/cover letter. I received a phone call from an HR rep who was exceptionally friendly on the phone, and who asked a series of basic technical questions (e.g. what port is HTTP, what is a router). A few days later, I was contacted to set up an in-person interview the next week with two managerial employees. One conducted more of a technical interview, and the other was more concerned with people-to-people skills. Afterwards, I took a logic and personality test. The next day, I was called to return for a final interview. There were two interviewers, and after the interview I was offered a position.

      Interview

As is common, having a referral is the fastest way to get noticed. Once your resume has been reviewed by a non-technical HR personnel, you will undergo an informal phone interview, which consists of some very basic (but necessary!) technical questions, such as: what is DHCP, what is DNS, how do you check/check IP address in windows from command line, etc. If you can answer these basic network-related questions, you'll most likely move onto the web-based personality test. If invited for an in-person interview, you'll travel to their offices in Oakland where you'll meet the COO, a potential colleague, and your potential manager. An offer, if all goes well, will follow in a few days. Over all, the process was very quick, relative to most others, but didn't feel rushed. You will learn a lot just by interviewing and you will appreciate the attention to detail. All interactions with the company was pleasant and professional. TIP: Get a referral or submit your resume in-person when they attend College events. They tend to coordinate with any Information System clubs on campus. If they don't go to your campus yet, you can coordinate with them to come down!

      Question 1

Explain the flow of DNS in detail. What is DNS, how does it work locally, how does it work on the Internet, what happens if a system cannot resolve a URL, etc. Also, you'll have to trouble shoot why a Workstation cannot connect to the internet. There is no final answer but you'll have to show your troubleshooting skills.

      Interview

I applied to the position on Craigslist. Within a week of applying I received an email with initial steps of applying. A phone interview was set up and if you did well during that, they set up a Skype interview with you (for applicants that live outside of the area). During that interview, I met with 3 different people that work for the company. I was then contacted about a week after that for them to fly me out and meet everybody. That was a great experience and if you get that far, you should be good to go.
