Can't say I've heard this one before - Describe a time you went against instructions of your manager and it benefited your company?

In my opinion, the answer would reflect the candidate’s capacity to assess the risk/reward ratio, how comfortable is when getting out of the comfort zone, and how sound his/her judgment is. Let’s deconstruct a possible answer: The success of a company today relies on two pillars: Excellent Customer Experience and Innovation. Ask yourself: what if the instructions are not keeping the pace with the dynamic of change in the organization, company, and industry? If the action you may take against the instructions of your direct manager will result in better service to the customer (either internal or external), will provide a more efficient solution to a business problem, will help meeting a stringent deadline, or will improve the relationships with customers then you may say “Mission Accomplished” for Pillar 1. As a matter of respect and consideration for your manager, it would be recommendable to inform him/her about your immediate actions via a) a brief reasons/actions/risks/rewards synopsis or b) depending of your knowledge, skills, abilities, tenure in the organization, and relationship with your manager, go with the simple “Trust Me” and do it! A good manager will never stifle the initiative of a direct report. A great manger will always encourage innovation and creates a work environment where people are empowered to take decisions and change things for the better. Less

They asked for me to complete a panel presentation for a 30/60/90 Day plan for my onboarding. (The level of detail requested seemed a bit much to someone coming in at a Manager level, but as I was clear about the Director title I had no problem completing this)

See Interview Process for further details, but this was completed and presented. The level of effort that was asked of the candidate (and that I put into the presentation) was not matched by the level of respect the company showed to me as a candidate Less
