Top English Teacher Interview Questions & How to Answer

Here are three top English teacher interview questions and tips on how to answer them:

Question No. 1: Describe an English lesson that you enjoyed delivering to a classroom.

How to answer: This question allows you to demonstrate your communication skills and your teaching style. It also gives you the opportunity to express your passion for the written word and your students. When you relate a personal experience, make sure that it focuses on your students and that you don't use the words 'I' or 'me' too often.

Question No. 2: What would you do if you had a student whose marks are slipping or who is misbehaving in class?

How to answer: The interviewer wants to know how you would help a student who isn't making progress. Make it clear that you are willing to adapt your lesson plan to that student's needs and work with them one-on-one to make sure they have a grasp of the material. It would be best if you were also willing to refer them to the school counsellor when necessary.

Question No. 3: How do you get a parent or guardian engaged in the learning process?

How to answer: Let the interviewer know that you believe that open communication with parents/guardians and making yourself available to them are vital. Regular email updates will help parents/guardians feel more involved.
