Employers are looking for candidates who can adapt their company's brand aesthetic in a way that provides a satisfying experience for their users. Be ready to answer questions about your ability to work closely with engineers and project managers as well as your knowledge of graphic design programs, web development and user interface design.
Here are three top UX designer interview questions and tips on how to answer them:
How to answer: Teamwork, communication and conflict resolution are essential skills for this job, so describe a process that reflects them to address the conflict. Steps can include using communication skills to understand a web developer's perspective, building solidarity using conflict-resolution and teamwork skills, and getting a supervisor's support. Also, speak about reframing the proposed change to address the developer's concerns and working with the developer to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution.
How to answer: A UX designer must know how to use relevant computer programs and programming languages. Demonstrate to the hiring manager that you have the necessary technical expertise for a UX designer job. Dreamweaver and Illustrator from the Adobe Creative Cloud, JavaScript and HTML are essential technology applications for this position.
How to answer: Demonstrate to the hiring manager that you are a strategist and team player by describing a process for communicating user experience changes that engages your colleagues instead of alienating them. Steps you can discuss can involve obtaining colleague and supervisor feedback on the proposed changes; developing usage scenarios based on feedback and market research; and creating a persuasive argument to support each change. Emphasise how you communicate effectively using verbal and nonverbal communication, active listening and empathy.
