Remember your resources: other coaches you know, your AD or your Dean. You need to have built these relationships before the "X" ever happens. If the situation is immediate, then it is a "time out" situation, and take some time to understand the situation. It is better after a period of cool down, so it is a see me after practice. Less

I would ask the student to first take a deep breath and let's go through their days to see if there isn't a way we can find just little gaps in time for them to do schoolwork. I would also remind them of their goals and the fact that they are capable of reaching them and I'm here to help. Less
