All in all I wasted a lot of time courting this company under the impression that they were looking for seasoned senior-level professionals to come in and bring strategic insight. What they seemed to be looking for was somebody with some experience who was willing to do a bit of everything. If that is what they want, then I would advise Zilingo to redefine the job scopes and downgrade the job titles, because an experienced, external candidate who is applying for a marketing director or head of marketing role is not looking for a generalist junior project role. I expected that they had more than enough opportunity to check that I was what they were looking for and the ever-changing roles they had on offer were a fit for me, but clearly they just hadn't worked out concretely what their priorities were and as a result they have wasted six weeks of my time and their team's time.
I had a very localised appreciated of the agricultural value chain of a specific commodity. I therefore felt that through joining Olam and this program I would be able to gain a deeper understanding about the value chains of multiple agricultural commodities at a more global level.
