What is your management style?

36 Answers

My management style varies depending on the employee. I've found that people are different so a one-size fits all style doesn't work. Some people respond to aggressive goals; others don't thrive on pressure. Some people prefer frequent check-ins; others prefer clear direction up front and then giving them space to get their work done. Some general rules: * Focus on hiring smart people with great problem solving skills and good communication. * Take the time to explain the business value of the work they are assigned ensures motivation. * And most importantly, having compassion for each person - show the person you value them, show the person you care when things are hard, and invest your time in the person. Being a good manager is about knowing your people. You can manage all day long, assign work out and be as directive as possible. But do you have respect from your team? Can they come to you and ask questions and feel at ease and confident in your response? Leading is the term I like to reference because a good leader supports their team and is uplifting. They give everyone an opportunity to advance if that is what they desire. People management is about your people and how you treat them. Don't be a friend but rather a mentor, someone they can look back at and say you were a positive influence in their life. For me the hardest part about leading is having that rock star employee who goes above and beyond, how do you continue to challenge that person if there is no room for advancement. People Management is my passion because I care about the people who work with me I don't just manage them. Management style is solely dependent on you and your approach to your team's success. Less

Describe the development process you prefer, particularly for a startup company.

you will be extremely busy when starting your own business. Your first start-up step will be deciding what products or services you want to offer. Pick a business for which you have a passion, as you will be spending many hours getting your business up and running. Another consideration is licenses. Check with your local county administration or city hall office. Find out what licenses you will need. There are other key steps to consider as well. Less

First of all 1. Expectations are definitely deluged. It is impossible for any establishment to implement and expect success. Less

Asked what I would have done if the CEO asked me to a meeting?

I think we must have spoken to the same person. Essentially the Director of Recruiting doesn't want a new boss, or feels that she should be the VPHR, so she's condescending and dismissive. Less

This entire process was insane. I interviewed with a group of entry level HR people, NONE of which had any experience, including the Director of HR, who was very unfriendly, inexperienced and cleary threatened by the new role. needless to say, I interviewed with the entire team as round 1, and not even the Chief Operating Officer. Waste of time allowing inexperienced people interview VP level candidates and chose their boss Less

Stay clear of this position and interview process. There are children responsible for interviewing for this role, those whom would work for this position. Its been open for over a year... and the HR Team is weak and inexperienced and should not be interviewing as a group of 10. The questions they asked were also very basic, something you would ask an entry level HR person. Less

There are 9 balls one of which is lighter than the others. How would you find the lighter ball in 2 tries

5 Answers

hint. group balls in groups of 6, 2, and 1 .

Roll them and see which ones rolls the furthest

#1: Place on a balance scales 2 groups of 3 balls. If they weigh the same then the lighter ball is in the remaining group of 3, otherwise it is in the lighter group on the scales. #2: With the group that contains the lighter ball, place 2 of the balls on the scales. If they weigh the same then the remaining ball is the lighter one otherwise it is the lighter ball that is on the scales. Less

It was so easy indicating you will work with people you won’t understand

If you need help passing the CCAT (hardest part of the process in my opinon) I passed it by studying ruthlessly. I found this site that has the same CCAT as crossovers and just took that a bunch of times. crossoverccat[DOT]com I recommend this for anyone that has the proctored CCAT coming up. The salary is $15 / hr which is really good in my country. 40 hours a week min/max. Less

I used the same site as the guy above me crossoverccat it helped immensly, im pretty sure its considered cheating but whatever the questions dont have any real life work impact anyway Less

When should you use waterfall over agile? Never or always, based on some loosely-defined initial assumptions that don't provide enough data to make a sound decision.

(Paraphrasing) When taking over management of a new team, what matters more -- the team satisfaction or the budget? We've all worked for those companies where someone new comes in and half the team quits -- and in that position, every company in the world would gladly trade the budget to get those people back because they then spend more on hiring and retraining new people than the budget savings. Williams-Sonoma, Inc.

Nothing was difficult but the CFO seemed to try to find negativity to discuss. And, she didn't seem to care that I had visited stores including their smallest concept. This was very off-putting. However, they did keep on time throughout the process.

I believe that they made an offer for this position but I don't know for sure. Given what I learned from the interview process and my contacts, I can't say that I'm sorry that I didn't get an offer. Less

Yup it really sucks. I use to work in finance there and hated it.
