I have been working at Mu Sigma full-time (Less than a year)
Culture and people - The average employee age at Mu Sigma is 25 years. An environment full of millennials fosters a culture of continuous learning over static knowledge. Consequently, there is almost no hierarchy in the company. The CEO is as approachable as a Decision scientist. There is no restriction on seeking help from anywhere within the organization and help will always be given. Through a rigorous recruitment process, only the very smart people get to be on the floor who do not think twice about going over and above what has been asked of them in their hunger to learn more. A decision scientist barely a few months into the system and supervising a team of analysts is not a very strange sight at Mu Sigma. Irrespective of other qualities, one common characteristic among all Mu Sigma employees is their never-say-die attitude. The informal Mu Sigma philosophy is – “I don’t know how to do it but I’ll figure it out..”
Learning rigor - Mu Sigma works with more than 100 clients spread across industry verticals. Mu Sigma believes that there is no single solution to any problem but that a solution is a culmination of different perspectives. This philosophy translates into a unique inter-disciplinary learning experience which comprises of exposure to an array of tools and techniques across Math, Business and Technology. Moreover, working at the world’s largest analytics service provider provides access to cutting-edge analytical technologies and the opportunity to interact with C-level clients from Fortune 100 companies all across the globe. Learning is disseminated in a hands-on manner at Mu Sigma – you learn as you do it on the job.
Professional freedom - Have you ever wished that there be a ‘customize’ button on your job description? Mu Sigma will give you that button. I have known people who after having spent more than two years doing Sales move into analytics delivery or vice versa. Many employees chose to take a break from client delivery and move into HR. If you don’t want to manage people and work as individual contributor, you will have the choice to do it. There is absolute freedom to trace your own career path and to make mistakes along the way as long as you learn from them. Mu Sigma helps you build your own unique brand.
On the flipside, working at Mu Sigma is not everyone’s cup of tea. The vast opportunity to learn through experience comes at a price and there are times when work gets a little too demanding. Extreme experimentation is one of the core values at Mu Sigma and some experiments fail which can get demoralizing at times. Mu Sigma is a place where you are not only part of the problem but also of the solution .
