    Difficult Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Bread (New York, NY)

Started with a call with the recruiter, hiring manager and then a Woven assessment online. The Woven assessment was pretty difficult for what was considered a screening... Had an architecture question, a communication question and an algorithm problem of medium/large size to solve in 60-90 minutes.

After the assessment, I went through three more rounds of interviews. One additional technical algorithm interview, one additional design round and one culture fit. Took multiple weeks and 5 total meetings after the screen to complete the process. Scheduling seemed to be pretty difficult for the hiring team.

The technical round was of average difficulty for a senior position but I didn't find the engineer who administered the test very friendly or welcoming. I definitely wasn't on my game that day but it also seemed like the engineer on the other side didn't know the answer to the question or how to assess progress. The design session was lacking and a bit confusing, we had a discussion but did not design anything. Culture fit was pleasant.

I think that my original code for the screening was not sufficient, as the grading process was looking for a perfect solution; however I was moved on through the process to the end. I wish that Bread would've declined me at that early point so that I wouldn't have spent a number of additional hours of prep and taking time off for interviews, but rather I could've invested time in a company that was interested in hiring me.

Overall, I felt this was a pretty long and arduous process for the position they were looking to fill and the team seemed only concerned with candidates passing strict assessments, not at all about fit, work ethic, team work, values or experience -- leaving me to wonder what it might be like to work there. I did get some feedback about my performance throughout the process at the end, which was nice.
