    Interview

The two designers who interviewed me had only been at the company for two months. It was obvious they hadn't looked at my portfolio or really knew what to ask me.

In fact, it was hardly an interview. Granted, it was supposed to be more of an introductory portfolio review, but the whole thing felt very rigid. They gave no real opportunity at the beginning to get acquainted in a personal way. As soon as I entered the Microsoft Teams meeting, one of them literally said with a blank facial expression, "OK, hi, so you're going to show us two or three of your projects from your portfolio. Afterwards we'll ask you questions. OK?"

After a short pause, I replied, "Oh. Yes, sure." I wasn't expecting to just dive right into the presentations without any hello-how-are-yous or other small talk. I took this opportunity to introduce myself to them (even though they hadn't asked for it), and it was only then that they seemed to catch on and introduce themselves too.

The questions they asked me during the portfolio review weren't too difficult (they just asked for basic explanations of my thought process), and they seemed to like the questions I asked them at the end too.

I wasn't offered a position, but the way they interacted with me makes me feel like I didn't really miss out on much by not getting hired.

And yes, I realize it's ironic that an AI company employs people who seem to act like robots.
