I applied through college or university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Propseller (Singapore) in Jul 2023

      Interview

TLDR; Propseller makes candidates spend substantial time on a take-home exercise without giving them a chance to go through the work over a call. By looking at the submitted document, they reject candidates if the work is more advanced than their suggested approach. The feedback provided had no real value to me.

Context: I worked as a credit analyst and data scientist at data-driven US and UK banks. I have been very successful in my field, with a salary much higher than they were ready to spend for a new hire. I just graduated from a top MBA.

Process: Initial HR screening followed by an analytical take-home exercise. Candidates are told they will receive written feedback on their work, regardless of the outcome. My submitted document included a detailed model that normalised inputs, built on pricing analytics techniques taught at a leading MBA programme, included what-if analysis, and has been validated thoroughly. I went to great lengths for this work, but the feedback did not provide relevant development points and was very underwhelming: it gave the impression that the hiring manager either didn't read the file or expected a less sophisticated piece of work. The outcome was a rejection without any opportunity to discuss the submission on a call.

Despite having a great discussion with the recruiter, in hindsight, I regret putting this much effort just to learn that the organisation might be less analytically inclined and not open to a great discussion on the topic. The interview process could have been much better if candidates had been given a chance to present their work, just like at most companies.
