  1. Junior Data and Automation Engineer Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Singapore American School (Singapore) in Jul 2022

    Interview

Terrible experience. The interview seemed fine initially.

However, the experience took a turn for the worse when I asked the HR about whether SAS is an inclusive employer.

HR seems to be on the lookout only for "degree of positivity" in a referee's reviews., and does not care to understand deeper -the more gloating, the better!

[[[Keeping the above in mind, we would need your full agreement to carry out our standard reference check process, in the knowledge that we need this step to be completed before an offer can be made, but also that the offer depends on the feedback from the reference check being positive.]]]

==> prioritise feedback from the reference check of being contrived or even gloating ones, so long as it is positive , over one that is neutral (neither positive nor negative)

I have been asked questions even by some referees on how distrusting their HR sounded.
Rigid adherence in "following an SOP", ( one-size-fit-all ).

1-way, top-down questioning by their HR (instead of seeking to facilitate a 2-way ,mutual understanding between the candidate and them)

Shortly after the interview, I asked their HR some questions, which was met with silence:
    My questions to them:

1.) Is SAS an inclusive employer, accepting and embracing the diversity of employees with diverse perspectives?

2.) By stating that you expect “ feedback from the reference check being positive.” , do you mean that you prioritise feedback from the reference check of being contrived or even gloating ones, so long as it is positive , over one that is neutral (neither positive nor negative)?

3.) Does your HR take feedback from candidates or junior employees/ current employees into consideration -on feedback that’s regarding the SAS talent acquisition strategy ? I saw that you have written that you “understand my views and concerns on the process”.

Apparently, some people here think that all candidates must fit in a certain mould in order to perform at their best; rather than their organization seeking to understand the candidates better via initiating a 2-way communication
