One of the Department of Defense's (DoD) six RCCs, the United States European Command (EUCOM) has a mission to maintain ready forces to conduct military operations; maintain transatlantic security; promote regional stability; counter terrorism; and advance US interests in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. EUCOM is a joint command comprised of personnel from all the military services, plus DoD civilians and contractors. The EUCOM's area of responsibility spans more than 50 nations and territories and 84,000 US troops assigned in Europe.
