APCO does not see its flaws
4 Feb 2023 - Vice President, DirectorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Mostly kind and genuine overall employees and co-workers that work hard and are focused on making a positive impact.
Cons
Despite the best intentions of the many, the atmosphere is toxic and clique oriented. Voices promoting progressive change are muted and written company policies are opaque at best. There’s little or no ability for employee growth and limited consideration from senior management of the people actually doing the work. Turnover is secretive and constant, despite lies told to the contrary.

Pros
Global client mix - diverse industries (despite the recent shift towards healthcare, which de-prioritized everything that is not 'healthcare') Feels like a government job, i.e. the more chill one. A good place to idle, spend time and move in-house. Exposure to regional and global work, including cross-market collaboration, if you are keen to work in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. hours.
Cons
APCO Worldwide globally as a firm has made a name for itself. For aspiring public affairs professionals, APCO is a great place to learn and grow - except for APCO SEA/Singapore. The office is run by people who are out of touch when it comes to managing a team or working on great projects that make an impact. This management change has really affected the quality of people joining the office, the quality of work that we produce, and the type of work we do. There are clear favorites in the office and this is absolutely not based on your merits. As long as you are presentable to clients, they will promote you and will not care whether you have the right skills for that level. The culture is very uninspiring. The management team is always absent from the office for some kind of trip that leads to nowhere. This leads to the team being unprofessional (without proper oversight) and there is no desire to do work well - everything is about getting things done, even if it is subpar. It was once a great place to learn and hone your ability as an advisor. Now, it is an example of what poor management can do to once a great team of competent professionals. It successfully downgraded itself from a trusted advisor to a media relations outsourcing center.

Chief Talent Officer
We are disappointed to hear the observations you are sharing which do not reflect the current dynamics of the Singapore office and the office culture. We maintain a diverse portfolio of clients who have counted on us for strategic counsel for many years and are focused on bringing in more impactful work in line with our consultants’ strong capabilities in GR, PA, and PR. The leadership team of the office is proactively engaging with the team through regularly scheduled team meetings and less formal individual check-ins and interactions. Some of our leaders, depending on their roles, are specifically tasked to spend more time externally engaging with clients in the region, while others are responsible for ensuring that colleagues are mentored, supported, and guided in their work. We do not tolerate favoritism and instead recognize performance and merit through collective decision making by a leadership with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you, hear specific details, and address your concerns directly. JJ Lee, Managing Director
