Pros
I have gained some great friends working here at ARTSY.
Cons
I encountered one of the rudest and unprofessional experiences here at ARTSY. My friends who hear my stories are appalled at what I went through and to this day, I get disappointed. First of all, ARTSY and management lack empathy. They do not care about you and your well being. There is developing finger pointing behavior but when it comes to management and their negligence, they turn the other side. When a problem arise, it is your problem. Pay is also extremely low and they ensure you get the smallest raise with terrible excuses. Lack of transparency. Lastly, some managers are amazing and are always looking out for their team, but mine was definitely not this type. Constant gaslighting, retaliating behavior, bullying, insecurity, and lieing. This manager of mine made me cry several times after work, and changed my entire personality. I am now skeptical and no longer bubbly as I used to be.

Adapting and moving forward

Amazing teams, the place is full of knowledge and people to learn from. Everyone is very generous with their time to help new joiners ramp up.
Cons
Would love to spend more time with teams in person, being spread out globally works great and everyone is clear on what is required - It would be nice to get back to regular in-person meetups when conditions allow for it.

Great place to work, great team
17 Apr 2023 - Director in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Warm, welcoming team - Hard-working colleagues who care about their work and the future of the company - Flexible schedule, unlimited vacation days - Nice, well-stocked offices in New York, London, Berlin (but team is remote-first, no one is required to work in-office) - Obsessing over art is encouraged - Good work is recognized - Most roles have room for growth, opportunities to expand one's impact - Giving feedback is encouraged and taken seriously - You'll never be bored
Cons
- Not a place for someone who wants a straightforward 9 to 5

Healthiest culture in the art world
17 Apr 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
* Democratic and open culture that accepts and embraces dissent as an opportunity for learning & growth. Having been in the industry for over 20 years across 5 different auction houses, fair to say Artsy's culture is the most constructive, healthy and empowering. It's not always perfect, but it is always safe.
Cons
Tech and Art are two historically divergent verticals, so the intersection of the two can create unique challenges with no precedence in the art world to reference.

Amazing engineers, amazing culture
24 Feb 2023 - Senior Software Engineer in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I've had almost 3 great years at Artsy. The whole engineering team and the surrounding product/data/design teams are so good. Smart people using great tools very productively. I learned a bunch, technical and non-technical things. Good opportunities for growth or even shift. Many boomerang hires which to me signals that it's a great company and a great person, for both sides to do that. I would definitely recommend Artsy!
Cons
My reason for leaving is that Artsy (for now?) only supports people living in the US, UK, or DE. I wanted to go live elsewhere and unfortunately this doesn't work while also working at Artsy. If you are cool to live in one of the three, you def should join. If not, maybe ask if they have changed their minds about this first. The salaries are not bad, but also not great. They are smack dab in the middle of the range. Benefits are good though.

Stable and growing late-stage start up

Strong exec leadership with mature and focused senior leadership team; exciting disruptor changing accessibility to artworks and artists.
Cons
Wish more people came into the office regularly (still hybrid with 2 days encouraged in office).

Best Place I have worked
17 Apr 2023 - Anonymous Employee in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
It’s great to work somewhere that everyone genuinely tries their best to make progress for the organisation as a whole. There is an openness and transparency across the company that is refreshing and allows progress to be made swiftly.
Cons
The art market is a challenging industry and pushing against hundreds of years of resistance is always hard but that’s the same for all companies that have tried to do things differently in an established environment.
