Job Security is a joke

Pros

Working is fully remote Flexible working hours Diversity and inclusion : You are hired purely for your skill. Your background does not matter, which is something most companies need to do.

Cons

-The work culture solely depends on the clients. If you're assigned to internal projects, there is no management. This may sound good on paper but there is an ugly side to it ; You report to the CEO, and your job security is just based on his mood. One moment he assures security and the next, you're fired. Sucking up to him is the only way to survive here. -Not recommended to people who are not married to their job. People who have other interests in life, stay away (again only if you're in internal projects). - MacBooks are mandatory but are not provided by the company unless they are legally required to.

Pros

You'll get paid an amazing salary to get your life ruined. I wish I could write anything more here.

Cons

-If you wanna get your lifeblood sucked out of you, this is the place for you. -CEO is pompous. He does not care about you. -You'll be hired and fired based on his mood, He owns the company so he is not answerable to anyone. -You can't make any big life decisions while you work in this company. There is absolutely no job security. -As long as you are sucking up to the CEO. you are safe here. -A colleague of mine was fired 10 days after he got married. Because the client did not need people. and he was really good at his job. -Your life will be ruined if you join this company.

Pros

1. The company is fully remote with flexible timings. You can work from the Himalayas or Amsterdam, No one really cares. You just have to get things done. Since it's remote you get to pursue your dreams of travelling or attending workshops, tech talks and whatnot. It lets you save and utilise your ~3 hours of time which generally gets wasted while commuting to the office. 2. Majority of the folks here are working on client projects which are really nice and I learnt a lot from it. (It gives you the best of both worlds of working for a startup and working for a tech giant as well) 3. Pay package is above par. There are no set criteria for the pay package. You get what you deserve. 4. No micromanagement - No one will ask for updates frequently, deadlines are realistic and they respect employee's schedule. Doesn't matter if you work 8 hours of day or just 2 hours, you should be able to add value. 5. Colleagues are technically sound and know their skills very well. It enables a sense of competitiveness where you compete with the best minds(positive) 6. Tech stack is also nice, They primarily work around RoR, React and Node. They encourage side projects and motivate employees to take part in conferences and write blogs, etc. In fact, BigBinary's blogs on RoR are top-rated. 7. They promote open source contributions and celebrate small victories. 8. No hierarchy. There are no managers. Devs with ~2 years of experience have the title of a software engineer and even devs with ~8 years of experience have the same title. Colleagues are super chill.

Cons

1. Remote work - I mean it has its cons too. Like, team building doesn't take place, No employee engagement activities, No networking, etc, People generally miss out on office activities. If you are a fresher, then there's no scope of learning as you have to manage and climb your ladder up on your own. You have to ask for help. 2. No benefits and perks. There's no insurance, esops, goodies, sodexo coupons, etc Since the salary they give compensates for the benefits but still it leaves the association with the company monotonous. 3. Nerd - geeky culture. If you are someone who is looking out for a company where you can chill around, cut some slack, and want a mediocre workload then BigBinary is not the right place for you. These guys mean serious business. People working here are really good at what they do and have their life revolve around the tech ecosystem only. If you are someone who is in an early stage of their career and want their skills and career trajectory to be on an insane learning curve then this is the right place. It's go big or go home. I personally don't like this culture as I believe one needs overall holistic work culture and not just a hardcore technical environment. It will enhance your skills and you'll be probably become 10X engineer but at what cost ? 4. No official appraisal policy that I know of. It's been 7 months since I joined but I have no clue about the appraisals. 5. No handholding - You can ask for help and it will be provided but you have to mostly manage things on your own. 6. Not recommended for freshers or people with below par technical skills. 7. Macbooks - They'll ask you to get a mac on your own. Since 95% of people work on Macs here you are also supposed to get one. And yes, it's not on the company, you have to purchase on your own. Personally, it's not a problem since I am getting paid enough to compensate for the same but this can be a dealbreaker for many.
