14 May 2023 - Pharmacy Assistant in Cardiff, WalesRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Be under no illusion, this is a tough job but you do get a sense of achievement when a job is done Best rate of pay in commercial pharmacy Safe working for a company that’s not going to go bust 22% disc boots products 12% on general products Double discount twice a year
Cons
High levels of stress and work overload Perception by public that it’s an easy job caring for people and getting a couple of boxes of pills off the shelf for them. A very physical job so can cause back pain Angry patients taking frustrations out on staff members on a daily basis Some members of teams not working as hard as others but all getting paid the same Very low staff moral Computer systems that go down regularly you can’t get on top of the work load Prescriptions in tubs and on the floor because pharmacy not designed for the increased number of patients

Pros
Lots of procedures and protocols for any new service Great dispensing system Opportunities to develop e.g. with vaccination services
Cons
Unprofessional culture with management. They set targets but don't give time for you to understand the targets and reach them. No support for you to grow or Professional development plan. Poor staff retention Shop lifting is very frequent and in bulk which means colleagues waste time stocking shelves for shop lifters! Poor cover arrangement for holidays means almost every month during colleague holiday, the shop is understaffed and falls back in progress.

Staff are lovely. The job is fast paced and you’re never bored, there’s always something to do.
Cons
The management is awful. Managers are very rude and disrespectful, gives off high school vibes. Talk down to you a lot. Think they’re better than everyone else. Not allowed to go to the toilet on shift or talk to other employees.
