Pros

Branching Minds has a great mission. And some staff really believe in the mission

Cons

They seem like a place where everyone loves the culture but in reality, the technical teams are the most unhappy. Branching Minds prides itself on a culture of positivity, it’s often at the expense of addressing real problems. Concerns are swept under the rug and they’ve forced multiple people out, either with baseless performance improvement plans, direct layoffs, or making workers unhappy enough to quit. Constructive feedback is met with dismissiveness. The relentless cheerfulness feels inauthentic and stifles honest communication. If you’re looking for a technical role in either data management or in engineering, don’t come here.

Toxic Positivity Culture

Pros

Truly Unlimited PTO Great Work-Life Balance: The company places a strong emphasis on maintaining a good work-life balance. Flexible work hours and a supportive environment make it easier to manage personal and professional responsibilities effectively. Commitment to DEIJB: Branching Minds is dedicated to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB) work. The company actively promotes an inclusive culture, where all voices are heard and valued. This commitment is evident in their policies, initiatives, and everyday interactions. Supportive Co-Workers: The team at Branching Minds is one of its greatest strengths. Colleagues are collaborative, supportive, and always willing to lend a hand. The positive relationships and camaraderie among team members create a pleasant and productive work environment.

Cons

Poor management: The management team appears disorganized and disconnected from the day-to-day challenges faced by employees. Feedback is either ignored or dismissed, and there's a general lack of transparency in decision-making processes. Inadequate Tools and Resources: Despite being a tech-focused company, the tools provided are outdated and often unreliable. Many of the processes are manual, which is both time-consuming and prone to errors. This significantly hampers productivity and makes it difficult to meet project deadlines. Unrealistic Workload: The workload is overwhelming, with expectations far exceeding what can reasonably be accomplished in a standard workweek. Leadership wouldn't listen to us about the KPIs they set, which were near impossible to meet without the quality of work suffering. This leads to high stress levels and burnout among team members. Toxic Positivity Culture: One of the most frustrating aspects is the toxic positivity culture. Any attempts to raise legitimate concerns or issues are met with dismissive responses that emphasize staying positive no matter what. This discourages open communication and makes it difficult to address and resolve real problems. Leadership Betrayal: The leadership team cannot be trusted. They will make promises of promotions and career advancement, only to retract them due to personal biases and issues. It's common to see deserving employees being overlooked or even demoted without just cause, fostering a sense of betrayal and distrust. DEIJB Hypocrisy: While the company promotes Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB) initiatives, some leaders do not exemplify these values. In fact, DEIJB principles have been used against employees, particularly those who are neurodivergent, creating an environment where inclusivity feels more like a slogan than a practice. Insufficient Compensation and Benefits: Despite increased responsibilities due to job description changes, compensation adjustments are not made accordingly.

Great culture, flawed leadership

Pros

My experience at BRM was excellent until it wasn't. Senior execs began to exhibit behaviors counter to the culture that made BRM so great, and gravitated towards only looking at bottom line and not being transparent or genuine in representations. High burnout.

Cons

lack of diversity at exec level high burnout lack of transparency
