It will grind you down

Pros

Brilliant if you love steering groups and no accountability. Some good people Decent chances for progression if you're in the right role and are friendly with the right people.

Cons

After a while it feels like you've fallen into a pit of despair that you'll struggle to climb out of. Once promising young professionals quickly become empty shells unrecognisable from when they first started. The old guard are empowered to grind new blood into the ground. People are given managerial roles because they've been around a long time, not because they're actually suitable for management. Often they're the least suited to it and nothing gets done about it. The politics.. Jesus christ the politics. If you think the back stabbing and bullying in Game of Thrones was bad, you've seen nothing. It's a constant battle just to navigate the political landscape in the company, everything needs a play, a plan, collusion with the right people so they'll "buy in". Complete lack of transparency over salaries, opportunities and benefits.

Pros

CPI are good at developing newly qualified people and encouraging young talent. A relaxed work environment with lots of social opportunities. Flexible working hours.

Cons

Wages for qualified and experienced people are so poor as to frankly be an insult. No/limited career progression within the business. Nepotism and cronyism are rife here, if you're not related or married to someone higher up you will struggle to progress. If someone is half as qualified for the role you are going for but they are friends with the hiring manager then they will get the job over you, every single time. CPI will actively seek to halt your progression within the business by blocking you from moving to other roles or departments so they don't have to pay you what you're worth. If you do secure an internal promotion you will only ever be able to increase your salary by 10%, even if the salary for your new role is advertised far in excess of that amount. Any attempt to increase your wages will see you ostracised by your peers and made fun of.

Pros

colleagues are lovely, friendly, very helpful. pension is 5 % employee contribution, up to 10 % employer contribution (dependent on employee paying 5 %) free parking, currently free electric vehicle charging - might be changing with company car hire scheme roll out.

Cons

Pay rises are based entirely on performance, rather than a portion being due to inflation, and a portion for performance. Pay rises for 2024/25 were calculated in June 2024, and backdated to April 2024, probably so that the news would be communicated after national inflation had gone down. Performing below expected: 2 %, Performing as expected: 4 %, Performing above expectations: 6 %. inflation for that period has been reported as 7.3 %; everyone got a real terms pay cut. There are no bands within the salary ranges, your position within that range is not anchored. You can put all your effort into moving up the salary range, for them to be reassessed and end up back at the bottom of the range for your job, despite all the improvements, progression, extra responsibilities, etc. Progression is as clear as mud, staff want clarity and transparency. The "competencies" list is written in corporate jargon, that is intentionally vague, leaving interpretation up to the individual, and making performance reviews inconsistent across managers and teams. Distil the job roles down, and make the expectations transparent and written in plain terms. The CPI "PRIDE" values have nothing to do with the LGBTQ+ community, and using that word is piggybacking on the efforts of other people for the sake of gaining clout. Suggestions were made for alternative acronyms by the LGBTQ+ affinity group and were ignored by senior management.
