Pros

Stepping stone to better opportunities. Benefits are great Tuition fee waiver No need to take work home Opportunities to learn new skills, learn what you can and run

Cons

Pay is very low Stingy management, union has to fight for paltry increases Overemphasis on union but the union is not very strong Management is unstable, lots of interim and many unfilled positions Too many students and not enough staff Traffic and parking is a nightmare Longterm employment here can be career suicide

Pros

The campus itself is a nice place to work. It offers the hustle and bustle of student life and has a lot of places to sit under trees to have lunch, etc. It may be okay to work here, if you are working and going to school at the same time, because of the convenience factor. They also offer to pay the tuition, or at least most of it (if you want to go to school here) for I believe up to two classes (with a fee waiver) if you work here, (with permission from your boss, of course.)

Cons

The pay is on the low end of the scale: It is about 1/2 to 2/3 of what the corporate world offers for the same job title. The staff is usually pretty good to work with but there are some management complaints. There is little or no room for advancement. Parking is a nightmare on most days, even with a faculty/staff pass. I have worked at the State level and in the private sector. I have experienced the pay and atmosphere in the private sector to be the better choice.

Pros

* Free housing and board * Build connections with other college students * Act in the mentor position * Learn to manage others, gain time management skills, and access to resources

Cons

There is such a rigid structure to the bureaucracy of the department that at times it feels that they do not care for the resident advisors. We are underpaid, have to tolerate many unruly residents without any support, and when things happen in the community they keep a lot of things under wraps or in secret. There is a lack of transparency and when the higher-ups make mistakes they do not compensate resident advisors or apologize for the trauma incurred.
