DO NOT WORK AT CANSTAR!

Pros

It was kind of funny at times I guess The 80s style of management. Really hard not to laugh when the CEO presents to the company, so many awkward moments. Provides heaps of laughs looking back now

Cons

I'm not normally one to do reviews, but I probably should, cause if it saves some poor sucker it's worth it. Yep, the company is as bad as what everyone is saying. I fell on my feet and got a good job, but I had to work my butt off and lie about Canstar. Haven't really looked back, been 3 years now, but it was the worst job I've ever had. And I've had some awful jobs! Don't work there, wait until another job comes up at. You will be better off in the long run. Trust e\me.

Pros

Most things about working at Canstar are terrible, except that it's a tiny company that most people don't know much about. And because so many people leave the joint, there are leaving lunches and drinks every couple of weeks. I guess at least I have a job so I can pay my bills, but that's about all that's going for it.

Cons

I reckon Canstar tricked me into the job. What they said in the interview isn't what the job is. It's been a massive culture shock as it's a horrible place to work and not fun at all despite what they keep saying. It's making it hard for me to get another job which has upset me even more. There's no training and heaps of mistakes happen and then the blame game starts. All of the systems are just the free versions and way out of date so that doesn't help. They don't seem to be able to invest in anything so it feels like a prehistoric company stuck in a time warp. Even the website is bad. The banks who still have to use Canstar and end up paying for the ratings always question their bills but management don't listen to staff or customers and don't bother trying to fix anything. Different newspapers have run loads of negative stories about Canstar and how it gets paid. It's always been us against them when it comes to staff and management. The managers mostly dodge responsibility and avoid talking to staff. Except at review time when lots of people say that they get marked down and we all talk about it and think they must be trying to reduce pay rises. Even worse still, they try to blame and accuse staff. That means there's heaps of long hours for people like me to try and get just basic stuff done, with no overtime even though I'm already underpaid. The managers always have free lunches while the staff sit in the room next door buying their own. And if you're lucky they will put the leftover scraps in the lunch room. Totally gross, as if! The CEO Andrew Spicer isn't liked or even respected. After reading all the reviews from current and former Canstar employees on Glassdoor, it's no surprise that the CEO has a 0% approval rating. He locks himself away in his office and then comes out to collect his online shopping deliveries from reception. The Canstar / Cannex brand isn't that well known, but must look pretty bad on my resume because I'm still trying to get another job, like heaps of the other workers at Canstar. People are leaving all the time and I'm really happy for them, but also jealous and can't wait until it's my turn.
