Don’t Do It

Pros

Since you will be severely overworked doing the job of several people, you will gain an entire lifetime of experience in a short period of time. But seriously, don’t do it. This place is a circus.

Cons

Absolutely toxic environment. Work-life balance does not exist. It’s a running joke how you will never be caught up or not be stressed. In team meetings you will hear the silence of employees who have been beaten down with nothing left to give. You’ll be told to prioritize but in the same breathe will be given more non-negotiable, competing goals. You will be pushed to your breaking point and then be assigned even more duties. You will hear about record sales and large bonuses while you’re stuck working 10+ hour days, drowning in the changing weekly goals, all while they deny requests for additional staff to deliver on the ever-increasing workload. You will be laughed at when you are stressed, bullied into decisions and additional work, and will receive “meeting expectations” at the end of the year so that your raise doesn’t break their budget. You will feel like you are constantly failing because you will never be given the support you need to actually succeed.

Don't apply if you have self respect

Pros

Some of the most brilliant people I've ever worked with. Another pro - they're all jumping ship for better places. From C-suite, the CFO is the only decent one who is down to Earth, has appreciation for employees, and is able to inspire and gain respect. He's out of place here.

Cons

The CRO is highly unprofessional and emotional in meetings. So avoid sales/marketing if you can. The COO doesn't have a driving vision. R&D is flying blind and they are staying competitive through acquisitions. The c-suite leadership LOVE themselves and their boys club so much that they refer to each other as "sexy" in town halls. The CEO in 2021 let everyone know he JUST realized he has privilege afforded to him that not everyone is born with. Years after the start of BLM and the metoo movement. He's openly said that there were no good fit female candidates for c-suite. The CEO has also said he does not want to make any political statements to his employees in response to January 6th. So you know where this company stands. The diversity and inclusion committee has no power - because the CEO and CRO are running it. If your company got acquired by Civic Plus - get ready for a demotion and salary cut. Women don't get promoted and if you discuss salaries - you'll see women actively get paid less.

Pros

If you work for CivicPlus for 10 years, you get unlimited vacation time (but, a lot of people can't deal with the stress for that long). The people are great. I made lasting, true friendships with coworkers.

Cons

The workload. Upper management has no idea how hard some departments or specific positions are working or don't care. Middle management is told to just get the job done and does not stand up for their team members. Middle management also has no idea what they or their team members are doing. They manage team members from areas in which they have no experience and most have little or no professional management experience. Communication and basic management have gotten even worse since the pandemic began and most of the staff has moved permanently remote. A person who did not want to move to in-person at their previous job literally applied here because they could continue to work remotely and that "it's easy to do the bare minimum and then spend the rest of the day doing whatever you want." Some positions can do this and the others who can't, watch, overworked and frustrated. This leads to the fact that the product that's being put out is subpar. Quality has gone downhill since the company began focusing on acquiring companies instead of putting more focus on its existing products, but it's noticeably worse in the last two years. Salaries are not what they should be compared to other competing markets, especially since the company used to tout the benefits of the new building which you don't get to experience when you're working remotely. The company does not actively promote or hire women into higher positions. A man in a leadership role was also recently investigated for an alleged sexual assault on a female employee.
