A company you simply cannot trust

Pros

Though it's a total mess behind the curtains, the paper is a respected institution in D.C. that puts out quality product thanks to the hard work of its small editorial and advertising staff, some of whom are talented beyond what the company deserves.

Cons

- Wretched financial state, including mountains of debt. - Shady, unethical business practices that include regular violations of labor laws and lies/aversion to avoid the consequences of that. - No respect for the financial realities or well-being of employees and contractors, i.e. laughably low pay, frequently late or missing paychecks, abruptly discontinued health insurance. BOTTOM LINE: The company is not in a state to be hiring people, so if you're in that position proceed with extreme caution and wariness. For freelancers and contractors, don't do any work for them you're not willing to complete for free.

Pros

Flexible work schedule. Adequate paid time off policy. Adequate health insurance benefits, if the policy isn't terminated due to non payment!

Cons

Notorious for repetitively paying employees late. Don't contract to work for this employer without requiring that they make payment in advance. Lapsing/terminating employer sponsored health insurance plans, due to non payment of premiums, while continuing to be deceitful by deducting the employees portion of their premium and not refunding the employee in a timely fashion. Notorious for low pay, without adequate raises or even cost of living adjustments over the years! No 401/K plan. Profit sharing plan with no allocation of funds, even after many years of employment! No profit? Pointless benefit!!! Obvious financial difficulties with fraudulent business practices!!!!!!
