Pros

This is a resort of Aspen/Vail quality set in a very (VERY) small town/community, know this before coming up. That being said, there are a TON of opportunities to do pretty much anything int the valley. The Ranch itself is tidy, mostly efficient, and accommodating. They are going through a management change for the property still and things are looking up from what most of the F&B employees have had to work with in the past. They will work with pretty much any schedule that you have: you can be part-time or full-time, Seasonal or Full Year. There are 2 restaurants, a catering department, an outdoor activities group, coffee shop, general store, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and even a stables if you aren't sure what it is you want to do there. Training needs a little work but they are making strides and leaps in that area. as for work/life balance, I would suggest going part time so you enjoying all that Grand County has to offer. Also, the owners are AMAZING!!!

Cons

There are plenty of challenges for this place, rapid growth is a great in most markets but here it poses an issue (there are only so many people in the valley and we need an influx of folks to keep up staffing levels, and at DTR we need a lot of staff to come in to keep up with said growth). Management is implementing new procedures that are helping to keep up with the growth. Benefits are hard to come by since you have to be a Full-Time Year-Round employee (you either have to be hired as such or work there for a period of 2 quarters with over 32 hours per week to qualify for) but when you get them they are pretty nice, and fairly inexpensive.

Not Worth It

Pros

Beautiful property, hardworking staff, decent wage, good as a means to an end to get to Colorado.

Cons

Management is a mess, definitely a "Boys Club" sexist mentality. Men get the best shifts and section regardless of performance. Management is friendlier with the guys while women are reprimanded and scrutinized more. Women are held to a much higher standard. They make you lots of promises to keep you there but rarely fulfill any of them. Most of the managers barely know how to work at a restaurant, let alone run one. Scheduling is done last minute and inconsistently. The J1 employees are undervalued and treated as servants. Most employees are consistently undervalued and there is zero training which has led to the ridiculous turnover rate. The food is very expensive but inconsistent quality (due to high turnover of kitchen staff) which leads to lots of guest complaints. Terrible reputation in the local community.
