      Pros

I have worked for Discover for 20+ years. They have an excellent culture, and stick to the motto "Do the right thing". Throughout my tenure they have shown time and time again how they care for their employees. I would highly recommend working for this company.

Great quick growth... At first and great benefits

      Pros

Benefits, benefits, benefits. The insurance is amazing and great opportunities to invest in your future. They also have an amazing atmosphere of positivity and are very customer and employee driven for a financial institution. I've gone from making $15 an hour to ~$20 an hour in about a year and a half's time. You also get a lot of PTO and double time and a half for bank holidays.

      Cons

In CMA you can grow and climb the ranks extremely fast, but once you've been through all the levels there aren't many places to go that will pay better within the department unless you become a team leader or coach (which have very limited availability). Also there are yearly reviews to determine how much your yearly raise can be, which are based on a bell curve, so even if you manage to have great numbers across the board you might still only get a tiny raise (less than a dollar) based upon what everyone else in the department makes.

      Overall a Good Company

      Pros

The pay was decent, and at the time we earned bonuses for reaching high stats. We received plenty of training and development opportunities. Some people liked being able to work overtime b/c of the pay. Also, if you were scheduled to work on holidays they would usually give you a treat and extra pay. There is a cafeteria downstairs, which is convenient, and there's a courtyard that's nice to take a break in. The company does stuff to keep people motivated and happy by rewarding them for excellent calls, or bringing in food trucks, and doing other fun activities.

      Cons

We were understaffed a lot in the Spanish department, so we had high, back-to-back call volumes. It can be a stressful job because calls are routinely audited and scored strictly to ensure we were hitting the right talking points and adhering to procedures. For some, the pressure to work overtime or being scheduled on holidays was not a perk. Although the company culture is generally positive, sometimes within teams there's a lot of gossiping and catty behavior that is difficult to put an end to. Schedule adherence policies can be tricky because your breaks are scheduled, but if you got stuck on a call you were considered out of adherence. Bidding on time off a year in advance and finding someone to cover you shift on short notice are tricky too.

      CSE soul sucking

      Pros

Pay is ok. Benefits are good, Health insurance, Remote

      Cons

Health insurance is expensive. Don't take the night shift unless you want to go crazy. The weekends are the worst that's why they pay you just a little more. It's not worth it. You are graded on I matter, if you work the weekends kiss that good bye. Managers are not motivated to see you grow as long as you are doing your job they don't care. Plus if you work the late Shift expect your manager to be MIA on the weekends. I don't really know why they give us one. Since the coaches help more than they do. Coaches are good and probably the best thing when you get a good one. Most will help you with training but only call when something is looking bad with your calls. Expectations with Discover are high, so they want you to be top notch. Your graded on how well you can suck up to the customer on behave of Discover. Even if the customer and the talk off where spot on if the customer is not happy then it's your fault. Start in banking they pay a lot better and you won't be a machine!

Great place to work, great benefits, pay is a bit underwhelming

      Jul 23, 2021 - Scrum Master

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The people are fantastic and so is the culture. The company has an underdog mentality and continuously looks to innovate across many areas. Very "midwestern" type of culture where majority of people are always down to help you even if you don't know them. The benefit package is good too, generous PTO , good 401k match, all that good stuff. They promote internal mobility as well.

      Cons

As with any larger company, the work can get a bit stale, which is why the internal mobility part is such a big plus. The pay seems to be below industry average, but all the other perks help make up for that.

      Pros

People are awesome, culture is great, c-suite cares A LOT about the employees and allowed us to work remotely during COVID. They were very communicative about the COVID precautions and the process of getting people back into the office. Care a lot about DEI

      Cons

Discover is trying to revamp many areas in their business, including diversity. however, their strategy isnt always clear. In addition, area's for development are limited.
