Supportive Company
9 Feb 2023 - Kindergarten Visiting Program TeacherRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
ECC is a huge company, this is in regards to their CES Kindergarten Visiting Program: -The training is in depth and they are very supportive if you need additional training -Communication is good because it's done through the native English speaking coordinators -Lesson materials and curriculum is provided with 30 minute prep time -Transportation is paid -Flexible schedule
Cons
-The amount of work you get is not consistent, definitely not for those looking for stable income (however there are always other part-time opportunities within the company that open up from time-to-time) -You travel to different schools, sometimes they are very far (you get a long distance travel bonus if it's far) -Not a regular school gig, you will be meeting many different school staff and students for the first time (not really a con, just the type of job)

Do not stay with ECC for more than 2 years
6 Mar 2023 - ESL TeacherRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good Training. Decent entry level salary. Friendly co-workers
Cons
*Salaries for foreigner staff are static. Raises are almost non-existent. *foreign staff are regarded as disposable by management. *the company will offer foreign staff no incentive to stay. *teachers who perform exceptionally well will be worked hard, while sub-par teachers will be less in demand and rewarded equally.

Good for a newbie teacher
10 Feb 2023 - English Instructor in Ōsaka, OsakaRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company will provide you with lots of training, so you will be able to get off to a good start as newbie teacher. Class materials and instructions are all there, so there should not be much hassle over preparation once you get used to the flow.
Cons
Since the company has rigid procedures for the teachers to follow, you may not be able to be creative in teaching your class. They do not have a clear employee promotion policy, so this is not an ideal employer for someone who is ambitious and seeking to climb up the corporate ladder. Pay is entry-level and raises are minimum.

A good company to come and experience Japan with
22 Nov 2022 - Native Instructor in Nagoya, AichiRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The Native staff look after you really well when you first move over, while the training is quite intense they are committed to supporting you and any difficulties you'll find in the classroom. Compared to other English schools the holiday and remuneration is good, you will have a good amount of time to explore Japan and experience the culture. The lesson plans are detailed and easy to follow so they give you a good chance to succeed in the classroom without any prior teaching experience.
Cons
The experience can vary greatly depending on the school you are placed in. You will definitely have to work on Saturdays and probably Sundays. There is no real progression if you want to stay teaching, any promotions would mean moving to an office-based role and they don't include much in the way of pay or added benefits.

One of the best ESL company to work with
18 Oct 2022 - ESL TeacherRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Very nice managers and supervisors. Everyone regardless of position is treated equally. Good benefits. Salary is also competitive. Students are japanese so most of them are really nice and respectful. You can also get a chance to work in Japan. They send teachers to Japan annually. Everyone in the company is welcome to apply for this job opportunity. They also have fun activities. They give free lunch or dinner during overtime. And free snacks during holidays. Great work environment, my coworkers were really nice. P.S. miss them
Cons
I can't think of anything negative about the company.

It's not too bad, but you need to watch out for embedded racism in some kindergartens.
21 Sep 2022 - ECC Native English Teacher in Ōsaka, OsakaRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good training, flexible hours & prepared lessons
Cons
Racism During the early days of the pandemic, I worked with two Japanese ECC teachers in a kindergarten near Shiraniwadai Station / Osaka. There were only 60 minutes of teaching time and 50 minutes of waiting time in the principal's office. Whilst the principal, Japanese staff and the 2 Japanese ECC teachers could sit and relax. The school teachers would pile books, boxes and many other things on the chairs at my designated desks each week, making it impossible for me to sit down for 50 minutes. That is around 16 hours over the year that they forced me to stand. Being treated like a second-class citizen by a school that wouldn't let a foreigner sit in its chairs was humiliating. As I look back, I should have cancelled that school from the beginning, since you don't get any thanks from the ECC for putting up with this racist and disgraceful behaviour. Schedule & Transportation Before agreeing to do any school visits, please double-check your work time, travel time and transportation cost. - Don’t travel an hour to teach only two 20-minute classes. It’s just not worth the time and money. - Don’t get a bus. It will put an extra 30+ minutes on your travel time. - Don’t accept jobs with high transportation costs. In my case, I had to set aside ¥18,000 each month for my ECC travel cost. - Do only accept jobs with a minimum of ¥6,000 - Do only accept jobs with transportation times less than 60 minutes from A to B. - Do only accept jobs with transportation costs of ¥1,000 or less. Paid Holidays After 6 months, you get 5 days of paid holidays per year. Make sure you use them.
